Gildan Activewear is best known for its dominance of the custom t-shirt markets. But make no mistake that Gildan is just t-shirts. Gildan is also one of the world's largest manufacturers of socks which are sold to mass market retailers under the Gildan name and under private label.

Most of Gildan's products such as custom t-shirts, polo shirts and sweatshirts are sold to distributors as “blanks” which are then purchased buy screen printer’s, embroiders and direct to garment printers. Consumers mainly purchase Gildan products as decorated apparel at events, concessions and thru their screen printing suppliers.

Gildans dominance of the custom t-shirt market comes as no surprise. The company is incredibly focused on market share and sports a solid balance sheet. The product itself is not that much different than the products offered by other majors including Hanes, Jerzees and Anvil. Gildan’s success in the custom tee shirt market has depended on the innovative marketing and their strong inventory position.
