To understand whether our discount embroidery is right for your particular situation, you must first look at a few of the things that can and can’t be done with embroidery and the associated cost when choosing this decorating medium. |
Your Logo The most important factor to consider is the “fineness” of detail contained in your artwork. Lettering is the most common problem area. Unlike t-shirt screen-printing where we can print lettering that is almost not visible to the naked eye, embroidery lettering is restricted to measurements of 3/16 of an inch tall and letter shafts and serifs must be one millimeter in width. These are the minimum specifications when working under normal conditions. However certain products such as Polar Fleece, Terry Cloth and lower density cotton fabrics may require that these specifications be adjusted upward.
The next factor in considering whether your logo is appropriate for embroidery is “line work”. Embroidery machines require a one millimeter tolerance to be able to use a stitch know as a “satin stitch”. The machinery moving back and forth across the width of a given line creates a satin stitch. This type of stitch is the most attractive looking method of laying down lines on embroidered products. These stitches give the appearance of one continuous line.
In situations where fine lines are required and the width of the line work does not match the tolerances required by the machinery, we may choose to use a “running stitch” as a last resort. While effective in some cases, running stitches are not the most attractive and will not show up on softer plush fabrics such as polar fleece. A running stitch is simply one single line of thread with visible needle penetration marks at specified intervals. We can utilize this technique on certain fabrics such as nylon, denim and pique cotton. Our 15 years of day-to-day experience lets us make informed decisions on technical matters such as these and then communicate our suggestions and concerns clearly to our clients.
Embroidery is restricted to the mechanical capabilities of the embroidery machinery. We own the best of the best in equipment, but in some cases, changes must be made to your logo. Not every logo that is presented to us can be embroidered. We turn down orders on a regular basis rather than churn out product that is inferior. |
COST Embroidery pricing is calculated based on the number of stitches it takes to sew your logo onto Discount Golf Shirts, Discount Hats, Discount Sweatshirts or Discount Bags. The cost is based on and quoted in the “thousands” of stitches contained in a logo. Embroidery files are set-up using a process known as digitizing. Digitizing is the conversion of your logo artwork into an electronic file that can be read by the embroidery machines.
Our cost for digitizing your logo is $12.00 per 1,000 stitches. This means that the one time set-up cost for your logo is calculated as illustrated below.
Left chest embroidery 10,000 stitches. Cost per 1000 stitches = $3.50. $3.5 x 10 = $35.00
The cost associated with actually sewing your logo onto Discount Golf Shirts, Discount Sweatshirts, Discount Hats, or Discount Bags is based on the number of stitches and the amount of machine time associated with completing your job. Most embroidery machines are run at speeds of 600 to 700 stitches per minute. A 7,500 stitch left chest embroidery as illustrated above would require approximately 12.5 to 15 minutes per run to complete. A jacket back with 80,000 stitches would require approximately 2.25 hours!
