Blue Heron Industries, Inc. announced today that it has purchased the Kornit digital printing equipment assets of an unnamed competitor in order to expand its production capacity. As part of the transaction Blue Heron will also assimilate the seller’s customer base into its operation. The seller’s identity is being withheld until the completion of the transaction.

According to Blue Heron CEO Kevin Kelly, the transaction is a win – win situation for all involved. “We have been looking to expand our production capacity and our reach since late last year. The seller did not want to expand their infrastructure to handle additional volume and we have that infrastructure in place. We have been entertaining several options over the past few months and this deal is both prudent and potentially ground breaking for us. Our online business is growing at a steady and reliable pace over the last year. Our digital printing revenue will eclipse our direct screen printing revenue for the first time ever. Five years ago I would never have believed that to be possible. The Kornit technology has been extremely reliable for us.” Kelly said.  

With regard to the expanding digital custom t-shirt market, Kelly stated, “Digital printing on t-shirts has opened a can of worms for companies that rely exclusively on screen printing as a means of product decorating. Those companies have been left vulnerable and exposed to overseas competition and a weak domestic economy. Digital t-shirt printing technology has allowed us to accept a significant volume of orders that could not have previously been screen printed and that has helped fill the void all of us have been dealing with during this recession. Public customers are presenting more full color art than ever before and we are prepared to handle that new trend in t-shirt printing. Many our customers who sell goods at retail have realized better sales opportunities and revenue growth by selling more upscale graphics that are being printed digitally. We believe our expansion is timely but far from complete if the current trend continues. These are exciting times for us as custom t-shirt printers despite the unknowns in the broader economy.”
